Complex Spine Surgery
Cerebrovascular/
Neuroendovascular Surgery

Dr. Moneeb Ehtesham is a fellowship-trained neurosurgeon with specialized expertise in cerebrovascular/endovascular neurosurgery and complex spinal surgery. He has served in teaching and senior academic research and leadership capacities for over a decade. Dr. Ehtesham is being appointed as an Associate Professor at the Burnett School of Medicine at Texas Christian University and has previously served as Associate Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska where he was also the Director of Cerebrovascular Neurosurgery.

His areas of special focus include open and endovascular surgery for aneurysms and other cerebrovascular conditions as well as complex spinal surgery, including revision fusions and surgical treatment of spinal deformities. Additionally, he has been recognized for his research in the areas of stem cell therapies and brain tumors. He was a recipient of the Young Investigator Award from the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons.

“I am passionate about my role as a healer. Modern medicine has become so complex, and I know that patients are intimidated by all the complicated terminology that gets thrown at them,” Dr. Ehtesham said. “Even though I have highly specialized training as a surgeon, I consider myself a doctor first.”

To Dr. Ehtesham, that means making sure his patients know all their options. “Most of the patients who come to see me are scared – they don’t know what’s going on or what needs to happen,” he said. “Part of my job is to explain their condition to them and what their options are.”

Sometimes those options include surgery, and sometimes they don’t. Whenever possible, Dr. Ehtesham will try nonsurgical treatment first because…“Sometimes the right surgery is no surgery,” Dr. Ehtesham explained.

Highly trained.
Highly compassionate.

When surgery is the right option, Dr. Ehtesham’s patients can rest assured knowing that he is highly experienced in both minimally invasive techniques as well as open techniques. Dr. Ehtesham is an expert in many of the most advanced treatment options, including robotic surgery.

In addition, Dr. Ehtesham is one of very few surgeons who specialize in complex spine surgery including revision surgeries and spinal deformity/scoliosis. He also has specific expertise in the treatment of brain aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations.

“There are many practitioners who are either interventionalists or neurosurgeons skilled at open treatment, but I’m one of the few trained in both,” Dr. Ehtesham said. “I say this not to brag but so my patients will know that whatever their issue, they are in good hands.”
